FEATURED OR MENTIONED IN:
The Rapids Lodge was built in 1915, making our lodge a century old. The lodge is built from local lodge pole pine, and was the first building in Grand Lake, Colorado to have running water and electricity. The building originally opened as an inn and restaurant, and has been preserved over the years as an historical hotel and a local Grand Lake icon. Our long list of famous (and infamous) performers that entertained guests in the Rapids Bar include Bob Hope, Janis Joplin, Jim Croce, and Kris Kristofferson. In the 1970’s, “Night Court” actor John Laroquette served cocktails to happy guests.
Though gambling was illegal in the 1950s, there was some action to be had at Rapids! The lodge even had a secret bell to ring to when authorities pulled into the driveway, alerting guests and allowing them to “turn the tables” and hide the evidence of gambling! Without refrigeration, the Rapids kept an ice house into the 1950’s and 300 pounds of lake ice, harvested in the spring, was chipped every morning.
For the best variety of lodging in Grand Lake, Colorado, look no further than the Rapids Lodge! Our many lodging options, with free WI-FI, can accommodate guest groups both large and small, from our lodge’s cozy guest rooms to our riverfront condominiums for groups of up to 12. We even offer dog-friendly suites! The Rapids Lodge can accommodate up to 110 people at once. Click here to check out our lodging page for more information about all our lodging options. Come enjoy our Rocky Mountain hospitality at the Historic Rapids Lodge.
THE RAPIDS RESTAURANT
The Historic Lodge and Restaurant building is typical of the early 1900’s “Barky” or Adirondack style of architecture sporting an austere façade and boxy look. However, upon entering the main lobby, guests are continually amazed at the cozy feel which showcases an original stone fireplace and an early, curved glass showcase from the original Granby Theatre where it was used to display candies. The mantelpiece decorations change seasonally and are always a delight to returning patrons. Stained glass, collectible plates and antiques are part of the unique décor. You will find our restaurant open for lunch in the summer, featuring sandwiches, salads and home-made soups. Our dinner menu offers a wide variety of steaks, seafood and wild game. Please call for hours (970) 627-3707. With views of the river and a vintage stage-stop fireplace, the dining room provides a great atmosphere to enjoy fine dining in a casual mountain environment.
