BRIEF HISTORYA little of our fascinating history – The Rapids Lodge was built in 1915 as an inn and restaurant, and has been preserved as an historical hotel and is an icon in our town. The unique lodge pole pine structure was the first building in Grand Lake, Colorado to have electricity and running water. We have had a variety of famous and infamous guests stay with us including Jim Croce, Janis Joplin and Kris Christofferson. In the 1950′s gambling was illegal, but you could find some action at the Rapids! There was even a secret bell that was rung when authorities pulled into the driveway, allowing everyone to “turn the tables” and hide the evidence! |
