The little things in Grand Lake Colorado ….

The Rocky Mountain National Park (100 years old this year) is a great place to learn about life on the Continental Divide. The Rapids Lodge (also 100 years old this year) is just 5 minutes from the West Entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. We are located just below the North Inlet Trail access in Grand Lake Colorado. Our stunning location along the banks of the Tonahutu River offer great opportunities for Moose and American Dipper viewing. On occasion an Otter or Mink might clamber along the river’s edge and Red Foxes often traverse the property.Grand Lake Colorado

The Rocky Mountain Conservancy is providing several educational day excursions on the West side of Rocky Mountain National Park. Contact them at 970-586-3262 to reserve  your spot.

Starting out on June 13, 2015 is a “Birding in Rocky Mountain National Park” all day excursion. Start indoors and then head out into the field within Rocky Mountain National Park. Grand Lake ColoradoAugust 15th, 2015 brings a chance to learn about the “Butterflies of Rocky Mountain National Park”. Learn about diversity and behavior. Things to Do in Grand Lake

There is still time to have winter fun in Grand Lake Colorado and the Rapids Lodge and Restaurant is waiting to host you!

Spring is approaching fast and although the snow is beginning to melt downtown, there are still plenty of things to do in Grand Lake. Snowmobile trails will remain good as we had an excellent base to start with and snow at higher elevations has been excellent.

The Grand Lake Nordic Center will stay open through the end of the month as well. Rent your cross country ski equipment and snowshoes or bring your own. You just might bump into a moose somewhere along the groomed trails. For St. Patty’s day take advantage of the Tuesday, March 17 special: St. Patty’s Day Special- Wear green and receive a ½ price trail pass!

Show shoeing on Lake Granby

If you have your own gear, cross country skiing along the frozen lake edge of Grand Lake can be very interesting and a great opportunity to look at all the houses, some with great history for example the Hallmark House.

If you aren’t into winter sports but just want to take a scenic walk, try walking along the asphalt road in Rocky Mountain National Park. There isn’t much traffic at this time of the year and your boots will stay clean during these early “mud-season days”. Wildlife, quiet and stunning scenery will keep you entertained. You could bring your bicycle too

Nothing beats a March day when the daytime temperatures are 40-50 degrees, the sun is shining and the “Colorado Blue” sky is glowing. Make a snow angel, enjoy the view of the snowcapped mountains, ice skate for the last time this season or ice fish.
