Summer is in full swing. July 4th is around the corner. Although our accommodation is full over the 4th weekend, the Rapids Restaurant is well worth a visit for a fabulous river view and a scrumptious lunch or dinner 7 days a week. We do suggest dinner reservations because July in Grand Lake is bustling!

July in Grand Lake can be a busy month but a mid-week visit to Grand County, Colorado can be a fun last minute escape. Bring your dog and stay in a pet-friendly cabin or suite. Take the historical our through the town or a boat tour explaining the history of the lake (Headwaters Marina). Enjoy dinner at the Rapids Restaurant followed by an evening of professional musical entertainment at the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre. We start off with a “Victorian Tea” at the Rapids Lodge on Tuesday June 17th. This is a fundraiser for the Grand Lake Historical Association. Tea in china, delicious accompaniments and Victorian Hats to wear (you can also bring your own). Call the Rapids to add your name to the list of attendees ($20 donation).
A very special experience is the self-guided “Grand Lake Art and Architecture Tour” (five of Grand Lake’s most interesting old and new homes). Great for all ages and you can take as much time as you like. There is also a dinner Saturday night at the Kaplysh home in Trail Creek Estate at 6:30. Come have some fun! Buy tickets on line at the Grand Arts Council or at the Grand Lake Art Gallery.
Perhaps a Guided Wilderness Hike at Monarch Lake will interest you (June 21, 2014, 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM). Come celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act and the 20th Anniversary of the Grand County Wilderness Group. On Saturday June 21st we suggest you participate in or simply enjoy the famous Championship Chili Cook Off for the State of Colorado. The dishes are always mouth watering and the entire experience is very worthwhile.
Have you ever wanted to know more about the bark beetle effects on the forests and why there are so many standing dead trees? This is your opportunity for an in-depth educational experience. “Bark Beetles that ate the West” is on Monday June 23, 8am to 4pm. Naturalist Jeff Connor will tell you everything you need to know.
An action packed week indeed! Plus all the other myriad of activities in our fabulous mountain town, including Bingo Friday and Saturday in the Town Park at 7pm (Grand Lake Rotary).

The weather is forecast to be excellent and a good match for all your outdoor activities in Grand Lake, Colorado. The Rapids Lodge still has rooms available so call us today! The Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre opens for the season on Friday June 13th with “Les Miserables”. If you are a fan of Bingo, you can enjoy Friday or Saturday evening at the town pavilion along with other visitors. Are you a birder? You might like to join Jeff Maugans for a full day of birding in the Kawuneechee Valley in Rocky Mountain National Park on Saturday June 14th.
Not only does Grand Lake offer an Arts and Crafts Fair on this coming Saturday and Sunday but there is also a non-profit flea market on Saturday as well. Sneak some birthday or Christmas shopping in. There is plenty of other shopping to keep you busy in town too.
Take a trail ride, rent a kayak or cruise the lake on a pontoon boat. The fishing is excellent and baby animals are starting to appear. You won’t regret a weekend in Grand Lake at the Rapids Lodge. Savor the breathtaking beauty of the Rocky Mountains and our 3 lakes!

Grand Lake is open and ready for summer business! The magical days of summer in the Rockies are here. Still mornings, a brilliant blue sky, wildflowers, baby animals and the haunting cry of Osprey. Our days are in the 70’s and the nights cool. Perhaps the Arizona heat records and front range heat is already making you think about a visit to the mountains.

It may be early in the season but that is a great reason to visit Grand County and Rocky Mountain National Park! The crowds aren’t here yet but everything is spectacular and accessible.
The stables are open, the boat and kayaks are available for rent and the staff at the Rapids Lodge can guide you to all the fun activities in the area. There is an acoustic music festival in town and Bingo in the town park on Friday and Saturday.
