Enjoy the ‘lazy days of summer’ sitting on the Rapids Lodge deck and enjoy a meal as the Tonahutu River passes by. Then go experience everything the Rocky Mountain’s have to offer from hiking, fishing, scenic drives, and horseback riding. Plus, live music is playing in all town.

Several trails lead from the town including the Continental Divide Trail. There are plentiful trails with wildlife viewing including bird walks.
There is an abundance of bike trails for mountain biking and US Highway 34 has a great shoulder for road biking. Bring your ‘around town’ bike and bike around Grand Lake.

Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake are great for boating and water skiing.

At this altitude, your golf balls are sure to go farther than anywhere else. Try a round at Grand Lake’s golf course, chances are an elk or moose will be seen while playing.

Several outfitters in the Grand Lake area can take you and your family on a ride through the high country trails.

This weekend (July 21 and 22) in Winter Park is the Art Affair & Jazz Festival. If you are staying in Grand Lake with us at the Historic Rapids Lodge, this event is a great day trip for music and art.

Other day trips just a few miles away from the lodge is hiking at Columbine Lake. A nice few mile loop around a mountain lake. Also Rocky Mountain National Park and its west entrance is a great day trip for a hike or just a scenic ride.

The Historic Rapids Lodge and Restaurant

Summer is in full swing and Grand Lake is in all its beautiful green.
Our restaurant is open every day. Please make your restaurant reservations in advance. We are host special events throughout the summer so we recommend making your reservations for dinner as soon as you know your plans.
Our recommendation is to make your dinner reservation between 5 – 6 p.m. if you are going to the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre at 8 p.m.

July 14 weekend is filled with activities such as the annual Juniper Library Book Sales, and he Rocky Mountain Classics Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, and Buffalo BBQ weekend with the Grand Lake Rotary Annual Pancake Breakfast.

Things to do in Grand Lake during the 4th of July week.

Even though the Grand Lake Fireworks are postponed until New Year’s Eve, there are still plenty of fun events for everyone.
On July 4th, the Grand Lake Rotary Annual Pancake Breakfast begins at 7 a.m. and will continue until 11 a.m. Starting at 2 p.m. there is a Dance Party at Lake Front Park until 6 p.m. Water Balloon Volley at Lake Front Volleyball Court is also 2-6 pm with all kinds of fun games at the park.
Just north of Grand Lake is the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. There are trails to hike and fish to catch in over 150 lakes in the park. 3,000 elk reside in Rocky Mountain National Park during the summer and chances are you will see one.

Trail Ridge Road connects Grand Lake to Estes Park, and reaches 12,183 feet and is one of the most spectacular drives in Colorado.
Every Saturday night throughout the summer a naturalist speaks in the park. Stop in the Visitor’s Center for times and details of each talk.
