Rocky Mountain National Park

Arapahoe National Forest
This National Forest encompasses land straddling the Continental Divide from Colorado to Wyoming. The forest is open to day time visits and overnight camping. Trails are available for hiking, mountain biking, ATV’s, off road motorcycles and snowmobiles. Stay at the Rapids Cabins for a Colorado retreat with access to all the natural wonders of our National Forests!
Colorado Wilderness
In a country that seems to grow every day, it’s a treat to know there are still areas within the state of Colorado that are set aside as Wilderness. The Indian Peaks Wilderness and the Troublesome Wilderness area are both within Grand County. Access is limited but the rewards are genuine. Motorized vehicles are not permitted in Wilderness areas.

Ice Fishing is a sport for the hardy. You will find updated conditions and fish activity here. The Granby Reservoir is located about 6 miles from the Rapids Lodge and Restaurant.

The Rocky Mountain region is home to many species of birds; from song birds to water birds to birds of prey, you will be entertained by endless sightings.
Hunting
Grand County is home to big game such as bear, elk and deer. For the Sportsmen and Sportswomen in your family a seasonal getaway in the fall is a must.

Grand Lake becomes a snowmobiler’s mecca in the winter and is also known as the Snowmobile Capital of Colorado. Common roads are shared with snowmobilers as people make their way into town for shopping and exploring. Grand Adventures will take you onto a network of beautiful trails or turn you loose to explore yourself. Bring your own sleds and stay close to it all at the Rapids Condominiums and Rapids Suites

Spirit Lake is a in the town of Grand Lake and if you just want to explore a little, may be the best option for you. You can walk from the Rapids Lodge to Spirit Lake Rentals, it's only 3 blocks.

This extreme sport is one of a kind! Located in Fraser, about 22 miles from Grand Lake, this adventure is exhilarating as a team of husky and snow dogs races through mountain meadows. With the wind blowing in your hair and scarves wound tight it’s truly breathtaking!

Grand Lake Touring Center
With two major Alpine Ski Areas in the county, it’s well worth remembering the Cross Country Skiing options. Located at Grand Lake, the touring center boasts some of the finest cross country trails in the county. Get a work out and see beautiful mountain scenery at the same time!
Snow Mountain Ranch
Miles of beautiful cross country and Nordic trails, the YMCA at Snow Mountain Ranch also has night skiing available.

Downhill Skiing or Snowboarding

Sol Vista
Located in Granby, about 16 miles from Grand Lake, Sol Vista ski area is perfect for the beginners or families with small children. This smaller ski area has been classified as one of the "Gem's of the Rockies" and is easy to get around.
Winter Park Resort
The third largest ski area in Colorado, Winter Park boasts terrain for everyone in your family or group. Explore new terrain and chairlifts at the Panoramic Express and Eagle Wind! The Winter Park Resort is located about 38 miles from Grand Lake.
Ice Skating, Tubing and More
Also located at the YMCA at Snow Mountain Ranch you will find so much to do! There's even a swimming pool, roller skating rink and basketball court. We recommend getting a day pass to spend some quality time during the day then come back to the Rapids for a delicious dinner in the restaurant.
