Snowmobiling in Grand Lake….

For those of us who don’t downhill ski, snowmobiling is an excellent way to access the back country for exquisite views and new terrain. Grand Lake is known as the snowmobiling capital of Colorado and for good reason. The Arapahoe National Forest offers 100+ miles of groomed trails that can be accessed right from your room at the Rapids Lodge. Snowmobiles are allowed on our roads in the Town of Grand Lake and this allows for a fun run to the store or shopping for anyone in your party even if they are not adventurous.

The groomed trails allow for all skill levels and if you have never ridden a sled before, the rental companies will instruct you in all you need to know, provide warm clothes and helmets. Take a double-seater and your youngster along with you. Conditions may vary from a snowy day with the magic of big flakes piling up in light weight powder to sunny days that allow views that stretch from horizon to horizon. Make a day of it and take a packed lunch, sit in the sun and soak up the warmth. Colorado winters are known for their sunny and warm days that allow soaking up the rays in just your t-shirt!

For skilled riders, endless challenges abound: hills and deep pockets of powder, hidden off trail meadows, boon docking (heading through the trees) and jumping opportunities. Plan your stay at the Rapids Lodge today and savor warm and comfy nights, delicious meals at the Rapids Restaurant, adventurous days and make sure you visit Hot Sulphur Springs for a good soak in their 21 outdoor pools (35 mins. away).

Hoping to see you this winter!
