Rocky Mountain National Park has reported that Estes Park is open for business and Trail Ridge Road is open for all traffic. Highway 7 on the east side of the Park is also open to all travel. Estes Park is open for business!
A loop from Denver via Estes Park to the Rapids Lodge in Grand Lake is possible again and a great experience at this time of the year.
After our warm September days and lots of rain, our aspen trees are just starting to really turn gold. The meadows are beautiful with golden grass and yellow willow leaves (a great place to find moose). We are also going to be entering a drier, sunny, warm period which means we can expect marvelous fall days with azure skies and intense color. Of course you don’t want to miss the elk and they are easy to find in the early mornings and evenings along Trail Ridge Road in the Kawuneechee Valley. They are bugling and herding their harems with great zeal.
It looks like colors may peak the last weekend of September through the first weekend of October so plan your fall stay at the Rapids Lodge and enjoy the ambiance of the riverside Rapids Restaurant.
The west side of the park did not experience the heavy rains and any flooding so most trails on our side of the Rocky Mountain National Park are open for day use. So come up to Grand Lake for a fabulous fall getaway. Enjoy great scenery, the quiet of our little town, the 3 lakes, fishing, hiking, the hot springs and much more!
Keep an eye out for donation jars and boxes at local business in support of Estes Park. They have a long road ahead and need all the help they can get!
