Lunches at the Rapids were a big hit! The Rapids Restaurant is no longer serving lunch now that the weather is cooler and kids are back in school. Thank you for all your support this summer, the very first summer we have served lunch! We will be looking forward to seeing you next summer! And thanks to all the locals and shopkeepers who sent hungry people our way! So often visitors to Grand Lake never know that the Rapids is here, situated off the beaten path and sitting quietly by the river.   We had an excellent season and received very positive feedback. Folks really enjoyed al fresco dining the shade or the sun, sitting by the roaring (June) or peaceful (August) river.   A moose wandered by between the tables earlier in the season and guests had to take a little break from lunch. We have also had an American Mink investigating under the boulders in the river for morsels. The squirrels are always busy and our resident Chickaree Squirrel quickly got used to the activity at lunch and didn’t seem to mind at all. He would dart among the tables quite happily entertaining all. Now, as fall approaches, he is busily caching his food supply. He has worn a path on the new lawn between two trees! Our regular visitor, the fox, I am sure will return as soon as the snow flies. We see him often then, trotting down the riverbanks. As the season winds down, more wildlife is seen around town including  elk, moose and mule deer.     Are you a hunter? Excellent hunting grounds abound surrounding Grand Lake and border the Rocky Mountain National Park. The Arapahoe National Forest offers many miles of ATV and hiking access to prime land. There are pockets of land all along the Wilderness and National Park areas that offer prime habitat and exciting opportunities.   The Rapids is an excellent base and offers condos that sleep up to twelve people. Many of our rooms are popular with hunting parties and offer a number of beds in one accommodation. If you have already made your plans for this year, come and stay with us next summer so you can scout out the area for next fall!
